Alexandria, Va. – Today, Goodwin Living™, a faith-based, not-for-profit, senior living and healthcare services organization in the National Capital Region, announced that Margarita Muzzall and Barbara Gay have been elected to its Board of Trustees. Ms. Muzzall and Ms. Gay, who have served on the Forest Hills of DC Board of Trustees, were elected to the Goodwin Living Board of Trustees as part of Forest Hills’ recent affiliation with Goodwin Living.

Following the success of a management services agreement with Goodwin Living since May 2024, the Forest Hills of DC Board voted to affiliate with Goodwin Living in February and the affiliation took affect March 11.

“The Board of Trustees are critical to our mission, which is to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults and those care for them in this region,” said Rob Liebreich, President and CEO of Goodwin Living. “Both Barbara and Margarita come with tremendous depths of knowledge and passion, which will help propel Goodwin Living forward.”

“I am honored to join the board of an organization that has demonstrated a dedication to serve older adults with purpose, diligence and a higher sense of calling, expanding their reach beyond the physical plant, while maintain and growing vibrant communities that act as centers of life,” said Muzzall. “I look forward to learning more of how Goodwin Living serves its team members and residents, while putting my experience in the industry I love to good use as the board sets the direction for the coming years.

Muzzall currently serves as Senior Vice President, Healthcare Finance, for M&T Bank. During her 25+ year career in commercial real estate finance for large institutions, she has concentrated her efforts in senior housing, financing projects throughout the US. She is an alumna of NIC’s Future Leaders Council and ASHA’s Rising Leaders. Muzzall holds a BS in Finance from George Mason University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Georgetown University. Originally from Chile, Muzzall has lived in Arlington, Va. since 2000.

“The more I have learned about Goodwin Living,” said Gay, “the more impressed I have been by the variety of services it provides and the commitment to excellence I have seen. I am excited to become part of an organization that works to fill the growing needs of an aging population while maintaining the highest quality of services.”

Gay is an attorney, retired from 25 years of service at LeadingAge. During her career there, she worked in advocacy and public policy, most recently as Vice President for Public Policy Communications. Her work at LeadingAge gave her numerous opportunities to meet with long-term services and supports providers from all parts of the country and learn about the challenges of the field. Before joining LeadingAge, Gay spent 15 years on the legislative staff of a House of Representatives member from New Jersey. She received her law degree from George Washington University and graduated from Mount Holyoke College.

As a not-for-profit, faith-based organization, Goodwin Living has been led by a volunteer Board of Trustees since opening its first senior living community in 1967. The Goodwin Living Board of Trustees guides the governance and strategic directions of the organization. Today, more than 4,000 older adults are served annually by four Goodwin Living senior living communities, a federally-assisted nonprofit senior living community – Lewinsville Retirement Residence – and a growing portfolio of health care services supporting older adults who are aging in place in their homes throughout the National Capital Region.
