Positive Mindset

Abisha is in her early 30s and has been a nurse here at Forest Hills for five years. This is her second job as an RN. One thing that she likes about her team is that they support one another to achieve their goals. She is from Nepal. “One thing I like about being this age is that I am living the life that I dreamed about a few years ago. My advice is to be true to who are and what you believe in and cherish everything in life.”

Emmanuel is 34 years old and has worked as a social worker at Forest Hills for more than two years. “What I like most is the friendliness; it’s very homelike, very beautiful. The staff is very nice. It’s been fun working with the residents because they have so much history and there is so much to learn from them.” He is originally from Nigeria but has lived in DC since 2012. He has been working in healthcare since he graduated from school in 2018. His advice for how to live a good life is: “Eat healthy, have a positive mindset, don’t worry too much. Just focus on today and enjoy the present moment.”

Helen is 84 years old. She has a good sense of humor, loves music and pets. She is very social and enjoys attending the parties that Forest Hills hosts. Growing up, her mother was a homemaker which is said was very important to helping keep her on the straight and narrow. She was a librarian and the World Monetary Fund where did everything from general paperwork to filing books to helping people. “There are still things I can do that are fun and interesting despite certain physical limitations,” she says.
