The Relay started at Forest Hills of DC with the baton being passed to 11 different communities within a 35-mile radius. Forest Hills very own Mr. Dennis Morrissey started the race to Sunrise Community on Connecticut Ave.
Mr. Morrissey grew up in Pierre, South Dakota, which at the time had a population of only 5,000, even though it is the state capital. He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Agency for international Development after living in 8 countries in 4 continents. His wife, Michelle, is a French-Canadian public health nurse, who he met in Haiti, where she was working for the Pan-American Sanitary Bureau. They have three children, two of which live in D.C. and Arlington. He is pleased to be running with Vicky Parker because she is ALWAYS on the run (and is also a baseball fan.)
